Ordered Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken skin was visibly dark grey/black in multiple areas, which is not normal for this dish and immediately raised food quality concerns. When I queried it, I was told the colour came from a ginger, shallot, and garlic marinade. That explanation does not align with how Hainanese chicken is typically prepared or presented. Regardless of safety, the appearance and quality were unacceptable, and the response from the shop did not inspire confidence. Very disappointing experience. Would not return.

Okay. I was quite disappointed with quantity initially because it costed $19 but now I know why it costed $19. It was worth it. It had everything, meat, chicken, egg, prawns, vegetables...a carnival of ingredients. It surprising had a smokey flavour, mild yet flavourful rice... I'm impressed. Friendly service with a great lunch special. Food is tasty and portions decent. There is ample seating inside. The laksa was a little sweet, but otherwise good. Roti susu is a highlight for kids. There is a 2p parking lot a short walk away.

Authentic flavours with tantalising smells and delicious tastes. Generous portions with friendly, prompt service. We were visiting Charlestown for a couple of nights and it was a pleasant surprise to find a simple restaurant with such good dishes nearby. Definitely be back when passing through again.
