The restaurant is what it is. And what it isโฆ.is amazing personal fast service. Delicious and fresh food. Reasonably priced which allows us to come here more often. Give this place a try. Just the service alone makes it 5โญ๏ธ
Back in the day when East Perth was bustling and the economy was still doing alright, this place was a go to for a Friday night for pre-drinks dinner and just for oldies who'd get trolleyed while eating some Viet dishes. These days it's pretty dead and the quality must have gone down a fair bit because the dishes we ordered were the most mid Asian food I've had in town. You're still paying an arm and a leg but maybe that's just Perth for you. There are actually a few Vietnamese dishes but most of them are just a mishmash of whatever Asian dishes comes to mind, like Pad Thai (should it have been Pad Viet?). Tamper your expectations, whatever you reckon it's gonna taste like would taste exactly like you imagine but not as good.
It was ok once I get my head around the fact that it's not Vietnamese aside from its name. The massaman curry was good one time but a bit bland the next. The choochee fish was nice and the fried chicken and sizzling prawns were delicious.
Don't be fooled by the name, you will find no Pho or many Vietnamese dishes whatsoever. They do have a range of other Southeast Asian dishes, mostly a re-combination of the same ingredients, definitely not very authentic For example, our Tom Kha was almost indistinguishable from the Tom Yum - which are very different when authentically prepared; likewise the caramelized pork was almost identical to the Mongolian lamb dish, save the meat used. Positive points: large and delicious pieces of Lamb were used, there were free shrimp crackers at the start, portions we're relatively large.
