Had a great meal at Olympus Dining. The Kefalotiri Saganaki was the standout for me, the combination of cheese and honey was such a unique and unforgettable flavour. Definitely a must try. We also had the Htapodi Ksidato, with tender octopus and capers, which was really enjoyable, and the Souvlaki Kotopoulo with chicken and sesame yogurt was delicious. Great food and a lovely ambience. Theyโre always fully booked, so itโs best to reserve early.
Disappointing service and cold food despite great ambience. The ambience and setting are impressive, but unfortunately they do not make up for the poor service and food quality we experienced. Despite having a reservation, we waited approximately 35 minutes to be seated simply because we requested an additional chair at our table. This delay was poorly handled and unnecessary. The bread with white cod roe dip was the highlight of the night. We ordered several entrรฉes and mains, including octopus, king prawns, and sardines. The hand cut chips came out kind of stale. The sardines were served cold. After informing our server (Olivia M) and requesting they be reheated, the dish was returned still cold and ultimately left uneaten. The most concerning issue was the service. While clearing our table, the server (Olivia M) asked one of friends at our table to pick up food scraps and place them onto the plate she was carrying, so that she would not need to dirty her hands. This was unprofessional and unacceptable, particularly for a restaurant at this price point. Given the reputation and pricing, we expected significantly better service and properly prepared food. Overall, the experience fell well below expectations, and the ambience alone does not justify the shortcomings.
The atmosphere at Olympus was vibrant for Friday lunch, backed by some of the most attentive and hospitable service Iโve experienced recently. The culinary output, however, felt a little uneven. The seafood is clearly where the kitchen shines. The market Bass Grouper was flawlessly cooked and seasoned, and the octopus was a highlight of the meal. In contrast, the meat courses lacked the same precision. The lamb shoulder was notably dry and stringy, while the sweetbreads (presented as a minced filling in a pastry) missed the mark on the delicate, golden texture usually associated with the dish. Additionally, the "Village Bread" lacked the rustic character one might expect with Greek bread. Overall, Olympus is a "good" dining experience.
We went for a family dinner as we'd heard the food was amazing. It certainly didn't disappoint. Standout dishes included Kefalotyri Saganaki, Arnaki, Souvlakia Kotopoulo, and the hand-cut chips. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant fit-out superb! Our server, however, was not up to scratch. She didn't take one of our party's celiac requirements very seriously and seemed annoyed by questions about the menu. At one point, she asked, "Well, do you have an EpiPen?" as if that was the solution to any accidental exposure. Server note: gluten intolerance doesn't cause anaphylaxis. However, her finest moment came when we were asking about the different wines, her advice, perhaps to help move things along, was "well if you don't care about wine, get the Canberra one". Otherwise, a lovely night with family.
Olympus is known in Greek mythology as being the home of twelve Olympian Gods, supposedly the place where these twelve meddled in human lives. I had an Olympus in my sights today, only the mountain was a mountain of food at Olympus Dining, Surrey Hills! I have eyed off this restaurant two or three times when visiting Sydney, and today was the day ๐ Olives, white cod roe dip, oysters in a tomato vinegar, and octopus with capers and lemon was first up for the entrรฉe. Standout? The octopus..ย Superb ๐ Fried zucchini with mizithra then a Kefalotyri cheese with honey and lemon filled the gap between entrรฉe and mains. The cheese - wow! ๐ฏ Mains was a charcoal grilled fish, some roasted lamb and tzatziki, with a salad and chips. The fish was light, flavoursome, and easy to eat. The lamb was phenomenal with a crusty, herbed finish. A Martini then a Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko from Santoroni were good accompanying drinks ๐ธ Dessert was in two parts with a hazelnut Brulรฉe rice pudding and candied fig in olive oil with frozen yoghurt. An unusual combination; I wasn't sure about the mix, but the brulรฉe was excellent. The wait staff were excellent; attentive and prompt without being intrusive ๐/๐ and the dining area had a very Greek feel to it, with feature statues and a central tree overhanging the marble and table settings ๐ฌ๐ท Would definitely eat here again โ ๏ธ
