First time having a meal at a Filipino restaurant and I’m blown away by LoLo and Lola’s variety in savoury dishes and desserts. Thank you for your large servings, much bigger than I had expected and well priced. We ordered four dishes and garlic rice between 3 people with big appetites, and had to pack half of it to go. Our Filipino foodie friend ordered the green mango salad which complemented and cut through delicious gooey fatty chunks of crispy pork belly (bagnet), crispy chicken in savoury sauce (chicken adobo), beef stew with eggplant (beef caldereta). Garlic rice is really garlicky - highly recommend to keep vampires and unwanted strangers from lurking near your food… could have been more garlicky to keep pedestrians away asking about our excellent spread of Filipino dishes. The flan is good but tasted slightly eggy and the purple cheesecake was a sweet novelty. Mango juice was tasty, slightly too sweet for me though. Great job team, tasty large servings and great value for money! No wonder people keep coming back 🫶
This was an amazing, nostalgic, and joyful experience here at Lolo and Lola with my family. The food they served was well-made, and each of our comments were full of delight and reminders of our home country, the Phillipines. The atmosphere was like any restaurant back in my country, and the christmas decorations reminded me dearly of a christmas livelihood in the Philippines. The waiters greeted us with kind words and even laughed with us, giving my grandmother compliments, wnd telling us jokes, which really shows the Filipino way of socializing. I love this place and i will keep this place close to my heart. Shoutouts kay Lolo and Lola!
We were here last time when we visited Canberra in 2021 but we totally forgot we have been here before! Definitely a great place to enjoy Filipino cuisine! Service is wonderful and all food we ordered was delicious! My personal rating is 4.7/5
Excellent Filipino food at a reasonable price. A must try in Canberra. Lovely service as well. The Halo Halo and other desserts are excellent and a must try. Delicious traditional drinks as well.
It was such a surprise to find a lively, bustling restaurant tucked away in a quiet residential area! We didn’t have a reservation, so we were really grateful the staff managed to squeeze us in — but I’d definitely recommend booking in advance. Highly recommended: Bagnet (deep-fried pork belly): The crispy pork crackling was incredibly light and crunchy, while the pork belly itself was rich and flavorful without being greasy — every bite was full of that satisfying roasted aroma. Sinaing na Isla (baked barramundi wrapped in banana leaves): This had a texture closer to steamed fish — delicate and tender. Most of the large bones were already removed, and the fish was stuffed with finely chopped tomatoes that added a refreshing touch. The soy vinegar dip with minced ginger paired beautifully with the mild flavor of the fish. Other dishes: Palabok Fiesta: We expected a soup-based vermicelli, but it turned out to be mixed with a shrimp-annatto sauce. The sauce had a very distinct, briny flavor from the shrimp roe — quite unique and enjoyable. Spicy Beef Caldereta: The tomato-based sauce was slightly spicy and rich, perfect for spooning over rice. However, the beef brisket could have been stewed a bit longer — it was a bit dry and tough. Since none of the dishes we ordered were particularly saucy or brothy, the Ube milkshake, with its icy, creamy texture, was a refreshing pairing. Like the Durian soft serve, its vibrant color made it really appetizing, though it lacked a bit of the real fruit texture or flavor that could’ve elevated it. All in all, Lolo and Lola offers great value, flavorful food, and warm service — a wonderful spot for gatherings with friends or family.
