We had dinner at this popular Malaysian restaurant during our Hobart holiday and ordered two dishes i.e. the Sarawak curry rice and the Rat Noodle (loh shee fun in Hokkien dialect). Both dishes were quite good and authentic in taste, while the ingredients used were also good quality. However, the restaurant does not use the authentic ingredient in the dishes e.g. BBQ pork meat in the curry rice was replaced by chicken meat version, while there was no crispy pork lard pieces in the rat noodle dish and replaced with chicken meat. They purposely make the menu "halal-compliant" to appease the Islamic people in their customer base, while sacrificing the authenticity of the Malaysian Chinese cuisine for the rest of the customer base. It is their business decision, but too bad I usually prefer all dishes in the original / authentic version. I wish they provide options for the customers to choose what version they like in their ordered dishes. Customer services are reasonable for suburban casual restaurant in North Hobart, while the place ambience is average for typical casual family restaurant. You can pay with all type of credit cards and pay additional surcharge of up to 1.1%.
Very authentic Asian food by talented chef and friendly staff!! Came here for the first meal in Tasmania and definitely had to come back the last day before flying back. The taste brings us back to Singapore and we absolutely love it!! This place is a must try when you are in Hobart and looking for AUTHENTIC Asian food!! Highly recommend!! The new menu has Sarawak Kolok Mee and it is super yummy! We had the Asam Fish Curry served with fresh barramundi and rice woooooo!! The Hainanese chicken rice is tasty too with chicken fragrant rice and soft chicken!
Authentic Malaysian food found in Hobart hidden gem ! Service is great as always . Kam Heong Pipi and sambal fish fillet brought us back to home . Strongly recommended !!
Nested at the edge of North Hobart dining stretch, Little Borneo offers a spread of Malaysian dishes. The service is warm, and the atmosphere relaxed. We ordered four dishes for three of us. The crispy fried eggplant is delicious. The texture of crispy skin and juicy inside, flavoured with sambal is yummy. The honey chicken is more Australian than Malaysian, and is regardless tasty. The salted fish fried rice is well prepared, and complement the main dishes. The beef rendang is a bit disappointing; we expected more layers of flavours. On the while, the dining experience is pleasant, and the food delicious.
Overall the food is a bit above 4 but less than 4.5. The noodle with gravy is good! Laksa (not pictured) is also great. Downside is just the roti is a bit overcooked as itโs super crunchy and the buttered chicken is just ok. The salted fish fried rice just needs a tad more salt on top of the fish. Overal, still a great place to visit!
