About
This is our go-to spot for Singaporean street food whenever we’re in this part of town. The menu is full of authentic, flavour-packed dishes—standouts for us include the Hainanese chicken, king prawns with glass noodles, pipis in a variety of sauces, rich and comforting laksas, and beautifully cooked duck dishes.

The setting is casual and unpretentious, more like a bustling café than a formal restaurant. Think tiled floors, simple tables and chairs, and a relaxed vibe. You order and pay at the counter, and the friendly staff bring the food to your table. Speaking of staff—they’re incredibly warm, helpful, and accommodating. No request is too much trouble, and takeaway containers are available free of charge (a thoughtful touch that sets them apart). There’s also a large round table with a glass lazy Susan that seats 8–10, perfect for shared meals with family or friends. The venue is licensed, with BYO available, and there’s convenient street and nearby parking. Some of the original metal chairs don’t have padding, though padded ones are available too. But honestly, the great food, fast service, and welcoming atmosphere make it a clear favourite for us.
Lion city gave me a great dining experience every time. We ordered steamed fish, char kway teow, hainanese chicken with chicken rice, clay pot eggplants and spicy pipi. All together was around $130. Hainanese chicken was fresh and the garlic & chili sauce made me consumed lots of rice. Chicken rice was flavourful. Char kway teow was a bit chewy but packed with hot wok flavour. Claypot eggplant was garlicy. Just be careful when you eat it - temparture was high enough to burn the mouth. Highly recommend for friends or family gathering. It has a free carpark behind and also very close to the tram stop. Staff was very friendly and the service of food was very quick.
This Singaporean restaurant has been around for many years, and I come here often. The food is excellent, and their signature Hainanese chicken is a must-try. Prices are very reasonable—around $30 per person. Highly recommended!
