I was looking for a nice steak on our visit to Launceston and this place came up during review searches. Conveniently located in the CBD it was walking distance from our motel. The staff were very welcoming and explained all options to us. I had the 600 gram rump and the bride had the beef pot pie. Both came with the salad bar. We also had a cheesy garlic bread for starters. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. The beef in the pot pie was unbelievably tender. You certainly wont leave hungry after the salad bar either. Reasonably priced for quality.

Popular Steakhouse with buffet salad bar in the centre of Launceston. Ordered the largest eye fillet 400g which was not as good as the equivalent steak I ordered at the Ball and Chain in Hobart. The salads were not particularly appetising or original. Decor is consistent with jailhouse theme and is interesting but not overwhelming. I probably will try a different restaurant when I'm back in Launceston

Jailhouse Grill is a great local spot with a strong focus on Tasmanian produce. We especially loved the steak stuffed with seafood — such a unique and memorable dish. The complimentary sides were generous and delicious, which was a nice surprise. We actually planned to come back the next day, but ran out of time due to our schedule. Definitely a place we’d return to on our next visit.

I arrived at Jailhouse Grill with an expectation of a dark, bougie steak house like I might find in Sydney. It was such a pleasant surprise to find something that actually reminded me more of the family steakhouses of the southern US. I really enjoyed the salad bar as I was waiting for my steak to be prepared - it had a nice assortment of salads with greens, fruit, and pasta. My steak, however, was the absolute highlight of the evening. I ordered the 650g Rump Steak rare and it was absolutely delicious. I let the slabs of herb butter soak in and I added a bit of cracked pepper and salt to taste. The staff were incredibly friendly and we always actively keeping up with the salad bar and making sure no food sat long in the window. A+ experience, best of Lonnie for sure!

Husband absolutely loved this place. The gamekeeper was amazing. Roast potatoes were also amazing. Sadly the salad bar was almost inaccessible to me because all the good salads had capsicum... but I got roast potatoes in their place ☺️ note: has the best priced Bundy rum...
