Really enjoyable experience from start to finish! The atmosphere is cosy yet vibrant, with opulent jungle decor and upbeat but unintrusive music. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, with a lovely personal touch from both the owner and waitress taking an interest and getting nicely involved with our pictures and stories. The sesame edamame was the best edamame I've had, and the meals were delicious with generous portions for the barramundi and even ample amounts of meat on the duck! Cute tropical sorbet dessert too. Warm and attentive service, with a very human touch, offering takeaway boxes and positioning for photos, very empathetic and accommodating all making for a delightful dining experience!
Service is NEGATIVE! We arrived at 7pm without reservation, was greeted by a young gentleman and we sat next to the entrance as my mom couldnโt walk upstairs. A lady came and offered some water, she offered still water for $3 which will be refilled unlimited until the end, and I was happy with that. Bottle of water came with 3 glasses, we immediately filled in 3 glasses. Later on, the gentleman took my order. We ordered the Yakitori Chicken Skewers, Half Sichuan Crispy Duck, Karaage Chicken, a bow of dumpling curry, an Asahi. He nicely offered the white rice to share and I thought it will be good to have with the dumpling curry. This is the only good experience for the entire dining experience so far. 7:30pm - the Skewers and Dumpling curry arrived (comes with a fork and a spoon). Everything was placed in the middle of the table to I assumed that you awared we will be sharing. We were sharing a bowl of dumpling by passing around. My mom and I poured the curry sauce on our plate to enjoy it and of course did not have any spoon. We saved some sauce from the bowl waiting for our rice to come. The dumpling and skewers are absolutely delicious and we loved it.The empty bottle of water was cleared away and no new bottle being refilled. 7:50pm - My brotherโs plate and my plate were cleared as there were the curry sauce on it, my mom wanted to keep hers, even with sauce on it. 2 new plates were brought for me and my brother. 7:55pm - the duck arrived, came with a fork and a knife. We looked at each other and hesitated who will eat first? I meant, how do you expect 3 people to share 3 duck legs with a set of cutlery? We placed a piece of duck on each of our plate and sat there looking at each other. Waiting for the manager to finish the conversation with the table behind us, they were laughing and chatting. After 3 minutes, my brother started eating as we canโt wait, so we decided to take turn. When she finished with that table, I asked her for another two sets of fork and knife, and also our rice. Maybe she did not heard me properly, she brought the rice and one set of cutlery. My mum was having the rice with the remaining curry sauce that was served more than 30 minutes ago and let me and my brother have the duck. After 10 minutes we finished, the gentleman from the beginning stop by our table (holding a bowl of rice), saw we already had the rice, he then asked if the duck was good then cleared the plate. I asked him for two bottles of waters, then he never came back. After 10 minutes, a young lady passed by and asked if we needmore drink. I said we were waiting for our Karaage chicken and I need more water. She surprised and went to check. No apology, no inform for delay or what happened. She came back with a bottle of water. We then poured them on our glasses and expecting the new one. 8:30pm - karaage chicken arrived, served by the same young gentleman, I asked for another bottle of water, it never came. 8:45pm - We finished our meal and went to pay. The total is $163, I refused to pay for $3 of the water as I told the lady that I asked for extra water and it never came. She was surprised and repeat โyou did not get water?โ. I explained that I was offered unlimited water for $3 but when I asked for 3 bottles extra from the same person it never came so we were very thirsty. She then confirmed that I did not want to pay for the water, she agreed but also said something like โitโs just $3 but I will take it off for youโ, she showed me the terminal to pay, without printing the new receipt. I paid and asked for the receipt and she said I can keep the one in front of me (the old one). Such a horrible experience even the food was good, we did not feel welcomed at all. My brother and I both work in hospitality so we know what to expect from a pricey restaurant like this. Food served in 1:30 hours, average 20 minutes wait for each dish, the price was not even cheap so the service was not alligned with the price you charge at all. It was our family Christmas dinner and it was completely ruined, I will never come back.
Four of us went for dinner and had a great evening. The food was top rate, but the place is very small downstairs and tables small for the amount of food dishes and drinks we had coming so felt like we were playing tetris all night as dishes came out. The service while courteous was not as polished as the food prices would expect it to be. We had some Edemame, Korean Chicken Bao buns, Vegetable curry, Karaage chicken and Tiger Sirloin. All these dishes without fault were fantastic food. All cooked as you would expect them to be and tasted great. They don't have Bundy Rum which was disappointing, (go buy a bottle from across the road) I'm sure it will sell out at a healthy profit, I would have stayed longer if they had some! :-) Will go back again as its a nice little quiet atmosphere and food was great. Know what to expect now for future visits.
Great spot for Asian fusion dining on Chevron Island. The atmosphere is stylish and relaxed, perfect for a date night or small group. Standout dishes include the dumplings and duck, and the cocktails are excellent. Service is friendly, would definitely recommend and we will be back again
Fu Manchu offers a delightful Japanese dining experience perfect for couples or a relaxed adult dinner. We visited with our kids and were thoroughly impressed. The food was fresh and delicious, with a fantastic blend of flavors. The chef's presentation was top-notch, truly earning full stars! The restaurant has a cozy vibe, making it an ideal spot for an intimate meal. While we did find it a bit overpriced, the quality of the food and the excellent location likely contribute to this. My only minor suggestion for future visits would be to request a table on the second floor. The manager was quite loud giving instructions to staff, which could sometimes interfere with the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. Despite this small point, the service and food were both excellent, leading me to give Fu Manchu a full 5-star rating. It's a truly enjoyable culinary experience!
