Visiting on business and stopped in on a weeknight. Ordered a salad and prawn tacos. A staff wiped the table next to me and accidentally flung drops of cleaning solution on my leg while I was waiting but didn’t seem to notice. My table was unstable if I put my arms down it felt like it was going to topple over so I already was feeling a little uncomfortable waiting so long in this environment. Sat there for 40 minutes waiting with no food before anyone came by and did anything. The server tried to make it right and bring me some chips while I waited, I asked if I could just get the salad I ordered because it should be quick to make a salad and I don’t want to eat a lot of fried food at the moment. She couldn’t get the salad out quickly so she asked if I wanted olives I said okay. But still took ten minutes to get the olives and finally I get olives and then immediately after the salad comes out. So at this point it’s been almost an hour and all I’ve got to show for it is a salad. I finish the salad and the server comes and offers me dessert on the house, trying to make it right. But I hadn’t even gotten my main yet so why are we talking about dessert? I waited another 15-20 minutes for my prawn tacos before I got up and told them I had waited at least 75 minutes and I was going to leave. I decided to leave before my main arrived since I had been waiting long and was tired and frustrated and wasn’t enjoying myself. The server was apologetic but it’s ridiculous that for me, dining alone on a Wednesday night, it should take so long. A salad and prawn tacos literally take 10-15 minutes max to prepare. Okay, maybe the kitchen was just slammed I guess even though it was a Wednesday, but 75 minutes and no main is completely unacceptable. It’s tough because I’m here on business and trying to relax but instead I just end up feeling more frustrated and hungry and tired. Alternatively I suggest people go to Tiny Mountain Brewery just nearby. Much better atmosphere and service and the Barramundi is incredible.
Upon reflection, the woman who ‘greeted’ us on arrival, clearly the Manager, set the tone for the night. It was clear the sooner we were seated, they could take our money and have us out, the happier she’d be. Check out the menu flier pictured below! I’ve been eating at restaurants for both work and pleasure trips, for over 40 years and have never seen this before in any country I’ve visited. It’s simple, your new prices apply, when your new menu is printed. WOW The young waitresses were pleasant enough, but spoke broken English and were poorly trained. We had to ask for water. Our drinks all arrived separately over 10 -15 minutes, with the final one (a beer) forgotten 3 times. When I went to the bathroom, the door was locked to access the area and a poor lady was stuck behind the door, knocking, to get back in. She wasn’t happy. When I asked if this was going to happen to me, i was given the key🤯 The food was ‘mixed’ to be polite. The consensus on the garlic bread was it was like 2 pieces of supermarket bread from a packet, cut in half…..and it was $14! One meal was served before the other 6 even though they were all ordered together. I think they assumed it was an entree. The prawn tacos were, I quote “terrible, I had these last time I was here and they were nice” They were loaded with coleslaw and had a couple of prawns added as an after thought. The pasta was generally ok, my steak cooked rare, as I’d requested, but a below average meal. A couple from our party had desserts and said they were ok. The cherry on top was the young waitress (pictured), banging around with a broom and shower whilst people were eating their meals still. It was clear they wanted everyone out, so we obliged and would never return. Good luck, you’ve been warned 🤷♂️
Disappointing food and service. Ordered a medium eye fillet $55 which came out rare at best, chips were cheap and for $12 extra unremarkable with a weird salad on the side. Sent back to get steak cooked to what I ordered 2 min later steak arrived back covered in sauce but when cut into a new section was still the same. Staff were not very attentive but were still polite. The trio of dips was ok. Manager was polite and asked if I would like it cooked a third time and I declined. It’s a nice looking restaurant but for that price the chefs should understand how to cook a steak. Will not be back. $67 for this and they still wanted another $4.50 for a small sauce on the side…
Found another great place in Townsville. Lovely staff and yummy food. Serving time was a tad bit more but understandably as they were packed. Will be going again and again here..
Finding a great steak place in Townsville has been challenging, but after my third visit, I can confidently say this spot stands out! We both ordered the prime ribeye, served with a small, fresh garnish. From the very first cut, I knew this was something special—the blade glided through effortlessly, revealing a perfectly cooked medium-rare center. The marbling was just right, giving the steak a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Each chip was hot and crispy, adding a delightful crunch to every bite. The waiter was friendly, welcoming, and had a warm smile, which made the whole experience even better. We chose the outdoor seating, and the ambiance was incredibly pleasant—perfect for a relaxing meal. I’m already looking forward to returning and trying another steak dish!
